A couple of weeks back, my friend and I were casually chatting and thought of having a feng shui expert check our luck this year since 2011 has been a roller coaster for us. I didn’t know my friend was serious about it and called me yesterday to go downtown and check out this fengshui expert, Johnson Chua.

His store is located across the famous President’s Restaurant. My friend and I went there at about 2.30pm and the place was jam packed! Mr. Chua has lines of people waiting for their turn of fengshui. I was surprised to see that much people wanting to have a guide for the coming Chinese New Year.

Not a super fanatic of fengshui myself, I just wanted to try it out of curiosity. Since my friend and I knew that it would take us forever to have our turn and I still have to be somewhere else in the afternoon, each of us got these New Year charms instead–just so hindi nasayang yung trip namen sa Ong Pin! These charms are only Php 150.00 each.

Each Chinese Zodiac has a specific charm and a prayer or oration will be done for these charms before these are handed to you. No one else has to touch the charm but you. You can buy for your friends/relatives, but take good care of the charms and make sure they are not touched by anybody else but the owner. I really don’t know why, but that’s what was said to us… and so we complied. Masunuring bata kame eh.

I had a chat with the relative of Mr. Chua while I was standing in line. I think she’s the mother. The lady is very nice and friendly. She told me that his son (I assume) has lost his voice for doing all the fengshui readings/advice. There were 4 TV shows that went to their place yesterday to film his son… and as we were speaking, Mr. Chua was actually in a radio patch for an interview. Imagine, that’s how famous he is!

It has finally arrived! Pinkberry–LA’s most famous froyo store… the one I used to catch glimpse on in MTV series’ The Hills–is finally here!

Since I was in Greenbelt earlier, I remembered to take a quick trip to Pinkberry and finally get a cup. I picked medium cup of mixed Pomegranate and Watermelon with fresh fruit toppings. I was so delighted with Anna (the one who assisted me in picking which flavor). She’s such a sweetheart.

Pinkberry is priced higher than its competitors. For the same size, I paid Php 220.00 earlier as compared to Php 120.00 of Yohgurt Froz’s–but who cares, it’s worth a try.

They have lots of toppings but I normally get fresh fruits instead of candies and cereals. Oh, and did I mention that they have fresh blueberries instead of those canned syrup ones? You can check out their menu by clicking on below image to enlarge.

I love Pinkberry’s creamy tart-ness as compared to, let’s say, Tutti Frutti’s icy-frozen texture. If you are into flavored froyo with the creamy texture, you can have this as an indulging alternative for Red Mango or Californiaberry.

I have become so demotivated working for someone else and from being a corporate slave. Yes, 2011 came to me with much realizations. While I was playing with Snoopy’s Fair, it just hit me–how I wish life were this simple, that I’d put up my snack carts everywhere and earn every 45 seconds. In a day, I could make thousands which can make me buy some more investments and make the money go around.

If only life was this simple.

I have a penchant for Japanese food. I just love having authentic Jap food. And among all the makis and sushi rolls, my favorite is the Gunkan-maki or the battleship maki… more specifically, the egg-filled Gunkans.

The typical Japanese fastfood (e.g. Tokyo Tokyo, Teriyaki Boy, Karate Kid, Tempura, Yoshinoya, etc,) in Manila would normally carry California Maki, Tamago Maki, and Tempura… but not these lovlies. Heck, even Omakase does not have these egg filled Gunkan-makis.

These Gunkan-makis are generally more expensive primarily because of the fish roe. I was so happy when I was able to find it in Karetake for the first time. I just loooooove the popping sensation of the fish eggs inside my mouth. Karetake offers Ikura Gunkan-maki (Salmon eggs), as compared to what we found in Sakae Sushi’s more common Tobiko Gunkan-maki (flying fish eggs).

I remember paying for Php 175 for these Ikura Gunkan-maki (2 pcs per order)… it was heavenly. So when I was in Sakae Sushi yesterday and found the cheaper Tobiko Gunkan-maki (for only Php 79 per 2-pc order), I got myself 5 plates from that amazing conveyor belt. :p

I remember I was so happy when I found a tupperware filled with fish roe in Subic years back for a cheap price and would always eat it over hot rice. But anyway, you can conveniently but these little fish roe in Cold Storage, but they don’t come in cheap. You can also get those jarred orange caviar in groceries like Landmark to make your own Gunkan-maki.
